Every gain we’ve made in the past 50 years is at stake!
Women know what’s at stake today
Tucson NOW is working actively to address the issues we believe in. Below are action items so you can get involved. EQUAL RIGHTS AMENDMENT The ERA is still viable and on March 7th Karen Fann, Senate President, stopped Senator Steele from speaking about women's history and prevented her from announcing her plan for a discharge petition. Fann is preventing the ERA from being heard in the State Senate. Please contact Senator Fann at (602) 926-5874 and let her know you support the ERA! Again the ERA is not being moved out of committee for a vote. Contact our state legislators and tell them the ERA deserves a hearing and vote! Here is a list of all the state senators with their contact information Here is a list of all our state representatives with their contact information Contact Tucson NOW if you are interested in helping plan another ERA event Equal Means Equal. Help us call our local candidates to guarantee their support to ratify the ERA. Email NOW here. The Senate ERA bill, SCR1011, has been assigned to the Judiciary, whose Chair is Sen. Judy Burges. IT ALL DEPENDS ON OUR LOCAL LEGISLATURE AND MEMBERS OF CONGRESS
Working to get candidates who will uphold our values is crucial. AZ NOW PAC has endorsed several candidates. As a501(c)(4) organizations, unlike their 501(c)3 counterparts, can lobby, campaign, and otherwise participate in elections so long as the activities are in line with the organization's purpose and are not the primary activity for the organization. Urging people to vote and discussing the issues with those you meet is crucial. We will be actively working to inform the public on the issues and the candidates views on the issues in line with the purpose of Tucson NOW. A voter registration training will be happening at our next general meeting in September. Please come and bring a friend!
We are working with Kamala Lopez director of Equal Means Equal to get candidates to support the ERA. ONLY ONE MORE STATE IS NEEDED! We will be calling candidates and have a script from Kamala to use. If you are interested in calling please let us know at the next meeting. Or contact Tucson NOW and we will connect you.
The Resistance School has some great videos and trainings. Sign up for free and watch.
