About Tucson NOW
Tucson NOW focuses on actions and events that support women in the Tucson, state, national, and international communities. While many of our events are an offshoot of Chapter activities, we also try to work closely with other like-minded community groups.
Since we began in December 2016, we have been a huge force in the Tucson Women's March. We participated in the Community Volunteer Fair, Peace Fair, Cesar Chavez rally, March for Science, the Tucson March Against White Supremacy, and an ever-growing lists of events. And we've got lots of plans for how to make an impact, locally and nationally.
Our monthly meetings frequently feature a noted speaker on the focus of the month. Our committees work on specific legislative actions around reproductive justice and rights, ending violence against women, diversity/outreach, constitutional equality, and economic justice. You're free to join Chapter committees and participate in events, even if you're not a member, though we'd love it if you'd join! Our Focuses
Constitutional Equality. Equality in pay, job opportunities, political structure, social security and education will remain an elusive dream without a guarantee of equality in the U.S. Constitution. The progress we have made — and must continue to make — towards women’s equality can be lost at any time because those advances depend on legislation that can be (and has been) weakened or repealed by Congress.
LBGTQ Justice. NOW is committed to fighting discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity in all areas, including employment, housing, health services, and child custody.
Economic Justice. NOW advocates for a wide range of economic justice issues affecting women, from the glass ceiling to the sticky floor of poverty. These include welfare reform, livable wages, job discrimination, pay equity, housing, social security and pension reform, and much more.
Ending Violence Against Women. NOW is unique in its approach to the issue of violence against women, emphasizing the interrelated factors and complexity of the issue.
Racial, Cultural, Disability Justice. A leader in civil rights since 1966, NOW continues to fight for equal opportunities for women of color in all areas including employment, education & health care.
Reproductive Justice. NOW fully supports access to safe and legal abortion, to effective birth control and emergency contraception, to reproductive health services and education for all women.

More from Chapter President, Kay Federoff
It's going to be a big year, perhaps one of the biggest years of our lifetime. The elections are coming, and there is an overwhelming number of issues to address. We are working together with other like-minded organizations to address issues brought about by this administration, and we encourage you to join us in those efforts. As part of those efforts, we are hosting this year's Arizona State NOW Convention on April 4, 2020 right here in Tucson. We'll be sending out information on the convention soon, but in the meantime please put it in on your calendar. It's going to be quite a day! Remember there is power in numbers. And in the cause for equality, we are stronger when we are united. Kay Federoff Tucson NOW President You can find additional information about our Chapter and upcoming events on our Facebook page. |
